Lesson 536 is the 536th chapter of the Gintama series.

SummaryEdit

As the Shinsengumi-Jouishishi alliance charged at the Naraku, led by Oboro, and the Mimawarigumi, led by Nobume, in the forest, Sasaki threatened Kondou that his allies would die all unless he died. An injured Katsura suggested using himself as a distraction, yet Kondou did not want any of them to die. Therefore, the two chose not to give up. While Sasaki's surbodinates attacked them, he recalled the past of the Shinsengumi, stating that Kondou had never changed.

In the past, when Matsudaira asked him about the plan and purpose of the Shinsengumi, Sasaki looked down at it, since its members could not do nothing but fighting for the leader position. As they talked, a ronin called himself "Mountainzaki" defeated 7 people, claiming to be the leader. Kondou turned up and complimented a defeated member for taking the thrash without fighting back and called for help.

Mountainzaki, annoyed at the sight, threatened to crush Kondou's group and wanted to have a fight with him, which he refused. Mountainzaki, along with his gang, tried to attack Kondou, but they were stopped by Hijikata and Okita's practice swings. Kondou then poked his sword at Mountainzaki and asked him to join, calling him by his real name: Yamazaki Sagaru.

QuotesEdit

  • Kondou Isao: Lend me your strength, Katsura. So I can survive to see them again. As long as I stay alive, and as long as you stay alive, neither of us is going to die. Don't let go.
  • Kondou Isao: A general doesn't need the strength to make all his comrades prostrate themselves before him. If he has the strength to protect one comrade, that's plenty.

TriviaEdit

  • In this Lesson, Yamazaki Sagaru is revealed to be a punk before the Shinsengumi was established.
  • As a punk, he called himself "Mountainzaki," whose kanji (山殺) means "mountain demon killer." Though, the kanji for "zaki" here is different from the one in his name (崎), which means "rough."
  • Kondou Isao mistaken Yamazaki's nickname twice, calling him "Mashin Eiyuuden Wataru" and "Tokoroten Wataru," which is a 1980s superhero anime and a Japanese cuisine, respectively.
