The Yorozuya gang give out a Happy New Year message but things don't go as planned.
Gintoki Shinpachi and Kagura sit under their Kotatsu and discuss how humans evolved from Kotatsu when Sarutobi jumps out from under. Shinpachi disagrees with the evolution statement and claims it has been more of a devolution.
The scene jumps to Yamazaki at Shinsengumi headquarters writing a New Years message. He writes "gantan" and it eventually becomes "anpan" and it is shown he has filled the entire page with "anpan".
Gintoki heads to the pawn shop to sell their Kotatsu and he buys a newer one.
Back at the Yorozuya, Shinpachi is disgruntled to find Kagura Gintoki and Sadaharu under the Kotatsu with the room in a complete mess. Shinpachi tries to turn off the power but to his shock the Kotatsu has a black hole inside. Gintoki Kagura Shinpachi and Sadaharu and are trapped inside and anyone trapped in the Kotatsu becomes demotivated and bald. Suddenly, there is someone at the door, Shinpachi begs for help and it is Katsura. Katsura immediately goes under the Kotatsu and goes bald. He then asks Gintoki how he will settle things with Takasugi. Gintoki says he'll just post bad stuff about him on online forums much to the disappointment of Shinpachi. Soon after, Otae and Kyuubei appear. Thinking it is a New Year's party, Otae goes under the Kotatsu along with Kyuubei and they both turn bald. Kondo and Sarutobi then come out from under the Kotatsu and finally Hasegawa shows up who is already bald before even going in. Everyone is unmotivated to do anything and they all rest under the Kotatsu before noticing that they all can't relax under it at the same time. The Kotatsu breaks and everyone goes back to normal except Shinpachi who is now bald and unmotivated.
